Useful Tips for HVAC Owners

The comfort of one’s home depends on a properly functioning HVAC system. The cool breeze from the AC in summer and warm gush of air in winter are simply unbeatable. However, it can turn into something you don’t want to deal with when things start to fail in an HVAC system. Continue reading and you can learn more about HVAC units.

Don’t hire a contractor until you know a little about what you are facing. Providing you with an accurate estimate over the telephone may be difficult to impossible is they can’t see the system you have. They also won’t be able to offer you a quote if they don’t have a detailed idea of what you want. You need to know this before you begin.

A big mistake that people make is cutting the grass next to the outdoor condenser unit and allowing all of the clippings to blow inside the fan and coil. Instead, make sure that the grass is shooting in the opposite direction. The same should happen if you are blowing leaves, so be especially careful when you are going near your exterior HVAC devices whenever you are moving debris.

If you are choosing where to place your outdoor compressor device, try to put it in a place where there is plenty of shade. In this way, it will be cooling air that is already somewhat cooled. This saves energy.

Be sure you have the HVAC unit in your home checked about two times every year. This should be done in Fall and Spring to prepare it for the extreme months. Although there might not be any noticeable issues, it is important to provide regular upkeep to prevent bad things from happening.

Install a thermostat you can program to save money on cooling your home. These convenient thermostats may shave ten percent or more off of your bills because they significantly cut energy use when you’re not around. There are also some programmable thermostats that can be controlled with a computer or other web-connected advice.

Service your HVAC unit at least one time a year. During a maintenance visit, professionals can help by inspecting the system’s motor, oil the different moving parts as well as check the system’s freon levels. These repairs will keep your HVAC system running smoothly.

AC units will tend to get ice on them due to the cold. You may even mistake the frozen drains as an issue for a plumber. Turn your unit on the fan setting to turn off the compressor. If the problem persists be sure to call in a professional.

Look for sizing calculators based on the air conditioner you have to figure out how big of a unit you need in your home. A unit that is bigger than you need simply isn’t efficient. Look at the manual for more information.

You should now know more about your HVAC unit. By failing to do routine inspections, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Use these ideas to keep your HVAC running well.
