Summer 2023 has been something else. And we’re still in it.
After more than 40 years in business on Anna Maria Island, summer is always our busy season for Bradenton and Sarasota air conditioning maintenance and emergencies. But summer 2023 has been next-level. Our expert AC technicians have been covering all corners of Sarasota and Manatee counties to keep our customers safe and comfortable.
We hope you’re staying safe this summer. And we hope that your AC continues going strong through everything. If live in the Sarasota or Bradenton area and you have any AC issues, please don’t hesitate to give Air America a call.
Here are some things we think our local AC customers should know about how summer 2023 is treating their Florida air conditioning systems—and their Florida air conditioning maintenance company.
Sarasota ACs are Always Working Hard
Here on the Gulf Coast of southwest Florida, our ACs are always working hard. The combination of the heat and humidity, plus the salty sea air and storms, make for many mechanical and electrical issues.
Summer 2023 is Making Sarasota ACs Work Harder
While we’re not getting our summer storms yet in summer 2023, the heat is keeping our ACs running harder and longer than they would.
In fact, the Sarasota heat index has been bottoming out at around 92 just before dawn. That means that right now, during our very coolest part of the day, your AC is working as hard as most HVAC systems work in peak afternoon summer heat.
Your AC is doing days on end without a break.
ACs that Work Hard, Constantly, Break Down Sooner
Summer 2023 is probably taking years off your AC’s life. Electricity is pouring through the wiring at all hours, the fan is spinning constantly, condensers and drains are dripping water, all while the 110-degree afternoons are beating down.
You Can Help Your AC Out
We can’t do anything about the heat. But we can do our best to keep our AC in top working order.
Of course, we hope you have a maintenance and service contract with a trusted local Sarasota AC company that’s been keeping your HVAC system sharp.
Beyond that, here are a four ideas for keeping your home cool, your power bill manageable, and your AC running for as long as possible.
- Help Your AC Keep Your Home Cool
The warmer your home is, the more your AC will run. Check that your home is equipped for staying as cool as possible, especially during the hottest part of the day. Keeping a cool home includes
- Keeping doors shut as much as possible.
- Managing all the ways the heat can get in through your windows.
- Check Your Air Filter
A dirty or clogged air filter is choking off air from your air conditioning. This makes it work harder and less efficiently. Asking your AC to work through a dirty air filter in this heat is like asking you to run a marathon with a pillow on your face.
- Check Your Drain Lines
If you know where your AC’s drain lines are, keep them clean and clear. Your AC needs to be able to get rid of the water that condenses during the cooling process. If lines are clogged, your AC’s electrical and mechanical systems will fail. Plus, you might be looking at leaks inside your home.
- Clear Vegetation Away from Your AC
Don’t make your AC unit work with leaves and branches poking inside it. They can cause immediate stoppages. Or they can linger, rot and create issues later on.
- Check Your Breaker and Call Air America
If your AC stops, check your circuit breakers. You may be able to turn it back on again simply by flipping a breaker. Still, that flipped switch could indicate a power problem and/or an AC that’s sucking too much energy. Best to call Air America to see why the problem started.
Since we opened on Anna Maria in 1981, Air America has been serving Sarasota-Manatee with expert technicians, efficient service, and small-business standards and honesty. We love to see our friends and neighbors throughout the year for regular AC service and maintenance calls.
In summer 2023, we’re handling a lot of emergencies around the clock. We don’t wish an AC problem on anyone, and especially not now. But if you do have an AC emergency in Sarasota in the summer of 2023, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
